Too young for a cell phone?

at what age do you think i child would be old enough for a cell phone?

When he/she gets to middle school is the best age because they are more independent and more likely to get lots of friends and hang out more.

I think at least 10 or 11 because if something happens they could call you or if they go somewhere you expect them to call you right? so they will by cellphone but you must tell them its a privilege not a right and you must teach them the safety and emergency rule which means the cellphone for emergencies only!!!! hope I helped you :]!!!

I'm 15, and have had a cell phone since i was 9, but it's becuase my aunt has kept in touch with me because of the issues at home, but i'm paying for my own phone now since my aunt wont do it anymore and i'm back with my mom

When they have a need for one. My nine year old has a kids version that will only call certain numbers. I'm not going to let her have one for chatting with friends and texting people until she's much older

When you get a cell phone depends on different people. If you are someone who stays after school a lot or needs to be able to call your parents or someone to pick you up from different places, then you should get a phone sooner. If you don't really need a phone, parents won't want to buy it until you get older b/c they can get expensive.

I think the phones that you program like four numbers into are good for a nine or a ten year old. I think this is a good age for a person to get a cell phone because this way they can contact you if anything happens. Also, on one of these phones you don't have to worry about them going crazy with minutes or running up this huge phone bill.

I think 16 is a good age unless theres a need. I did get my son a perpaid one when he was 12 but he has medical conditions and sometimes the school wont let him call me when he needs to

I have one and I'm 13. I need it desperately to call my mom to pick me up from afterschool activities. I don't really call my friends on it though. I call them on the home phone.

they have cell phones that only have a few buttons on them that the parent pre-programs the numbers onto... if the parents were to get their child one of those ones..even 9-10 would be a good age...with all the strange people around now days.. its good to have an easy way for them to contact you in case of an emergency

It all depend on the kids my 12 year old son and 9 year old daughter both have one.  They know I check it all the time and if they call anyone they are not allowed to I will take it away, and they wont have on until they can get there own.
