Question:

Topsheet Split/Crack?

So I just noticed a split on my topsheet between my rear binding and my tail. It's about an inch long and extends about 3/4's of a cm in towards the tail. By split I mean it lifted up and it seems like whatever the graphics were put on can be seen and felt with my nail. I can't see any wood, but is this enough reason to get an epoxy job to prevent any moisture from reaching the core?

  1. This is exactly what happened to my first board. If you want to keep using the board, you will have to get it fixed or fix it yourself - when you ride switch it will pack snow into the split and make it worse.

    Good Luck

  2. If the board is still under warranty, you should take it into the shop to see if it is covered.  If not, I suggest a good quality epoxy to make the repair.  For a job like this I prefer 30 minute epoxy for the longer working time compared to 5 minute epoxy.  Here are some tips:

    1) make sure the board is completely to room temperature & have a clamp or heavy weight ready that will hold the split closed

    2) prepare the area that requires repair: try to carefully open the split and make sure that there is no debris inside

    3) mix your epoxy - and work it into the split trying to get it deep into the opening

    4) use a heat gun to warm the area and the epoxy - be careful as this will also shorten your working time

    5) clamp (or weigh down) the split to make sure it stays closed as the glue cures - use waxed paper to ensure that the clamp does get stuck to your board

    6) leave it well past the cure time before taking off the clamp

Let us know if this worked out for you!  Good Luck.
