i had a pet tortoise when i was little , i think my dad may stil haver it but i no longer see him much

im thinking of getting one myself as a pet store not too far away has them and i feel sorry as the enclosure at the shop is tiny

id like some advice

i want a breed that can be kept outdoors , i have a good sized garden, which is well fenced off with a large grassy area , and a few odd plants , i also have 2 large sheds , one of which has some low lighting, i dont go out often and so can give a lot of time to one of these animals ,

what is the best breed to get?

should they be kept in a shed or a low (no feet) rabbit type hutch and allowed to roam free in the day.

where would i put it when hibernating

  1. hermans tortoise are the harder breed of tortoise. although you can keep the tortoise outdoors during the day in the summer, aslong as well enclosed as tortoises are great escape artists.also supervised as dogs and cats can harm them.i would recommend a vivirium as our summers arnt always that hot. also keeping a tortoise in a vivirium stops it from hibirnating so you get to enjoy the tortoise all year round. it will need a heat lamp and uv aswell. as tortoises dont generate their own heat and they need the uv lamps to produce good shells and strong bones.i own a hermanns and they are great pets, enjoy.warning, they do live around 100 years if cared for properly.a pet for life and beyond.sue

  2. if you want an indoor tortoise that does not grow very big then a horsefield (Russian)  is an ideal tortoise to get, they do not grow very big and are easy to care for, if you want your tortoise outside during the hot days then a small hut or kennel is required, the best thing to house your tortoise in is a tortoises table the tanks do not have enough air flow and the humidity levels can get too high which is not good for a tortoise, here is a site that you can see the different types of tortoise and their care so you can decide which one is best suited to you, it will also explain, the best housing and how to hibernate a tortoise but some tortoises do not hibernate, i will put some other sites in the sources so you can also look at them best of luck honey hope you find a tortoise to suit you

  3. You could ask your dad, since no one seems to know
