Total Computer Watts ??????????

need to know the total watts of my desktop.....

this is the specs....

Intel P4 1.6 Ghz 400 512 (wiliamette)

Abit it7-max2 v2.0

Maxtor 40GB IDE 7200RPM

Floppy disk

LG optical drive

GeCube 9550XT 128MB 128bit ddr

256MB ddr400 2.7v kingston

1 PCI used for network card

my current PSU is 200W

I want to add 1GB ram and the better proccessor...

do i need to buy a new PSU???

p/s : my CRT monitor using separate power....

does your mobo support a higher processor speed? does your mobo supprt that kind of ram? answer first this question and i will tell you how

200 watts is not sufficient for your desktop. 450 would be better

if you are planning to upgrade the processor and Ram

You may not need the extra power but it will be available if ever you do . Better to have more than not enough.

Ckeck the mobo's manual before upgrading. It may not allow what you wish to do.

Well the computer can only use the watts supported (resp. supplied) by the psu, so in your case thats 200W

Changing the processor or memory doesnt really matter.

Things that do matter are adding an extra fan, a dvd burner or adding any other components that have a seperate power supply.

e.g. if you would want to hook up the monitors power to the computer it wouldnt work unless you get a bigger psu.

Get a power strip and get a kill a watt meter.

Remember  if you are playing a 3D game it will require WAY more watts then just typing!

So plug all your stuff in the strip and plug it in the meter.

It will get you all you need to know. I have 2 of these. But I want the one that will keep the settings after a power outtage.

It depends on the applications you want to run. You can upgrade your psu for about 65.00

If you want to add more ram on it and a new CPU you should get atleast a 380 Watt to a 400 Watt Probably a 400 Watt.
