Tottenham Hotspur have failed in their bid to land French international goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 from Lyon after the club missed the deadline set by Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas.
Aulas had clearly stated that all clubs interested in the Lloris will have to bid an excess of £16 million before the deadline set by the club, which was the start of Lyon's pre-season training.
Lyon had said that interested clubs will have to agree a fee for Lloris with Lyon before the French international returns for pre-season training with the club; otherwise he would no longer be available.
Hugo Lloris captained http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 in their Euro 2012 campaign last month, and is considered one of the top goalkeepers in Europe.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Tottenham had both been leading the chase for his signatures, with Tottenham reportedly the only club to have made an approach with an official bid. From there on, it was all about Tottenham and Lloris, with many saying it was only a matter of
time before the player arrives at White Hart Lane.
Speaking to Lyon’s official website at the start of the month, Aulas said:
“Hugo told me he would leave if he had an opportunity to play in one of the five biggest European clubs.”
“We talked before, during and after the Euros. We are perfectly in tune on the subject.”
“If any of these clubs make a proposal to the value is €20million, it will have a good scenario. If this is not the case before July 15, it will be the Lyon for the season.”
Lloris returned for pre-season training with his Lyon teammates yesterday, and it seems unlikely that the player will move to a new club this season.
Current first choice goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Friedel-c7953, at the age of 41, is nearing retirement and is on the last year of his contract. Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas had identified Lloris as the long term replacement for the American and someone who would be
Tottenham’s number 1 for years to come.
At the age of 25, Lloris would prove to be an exceptional signing for any club, especially considering his experience and the number of clean sheets he has kept for Lyon.
But now, it seems that Villas-Boas will have to turn to other targets, with reports claiming that the Portuguese manager is interested in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Julio-Cesar-c19961.
