  1. All I have is a connection from London St.Pancras via Paris

    to Madrid Charmatin.

London to Paris North 2 h 22 min, a stop for 2h 25 min, then from Paris Austerlitz to Madrid Charmatin ( 13h 28 min)Travel time in total approx. 18.5 hours and yes you need a passport ( just in case ).

    Hope the helps a bit.

The fare would be 341 US dollars .

  2. If you are from an EU country, I don't think you need a passport.  If you are from the US, for example, of course you do!  You are crossing international borders!

And, no.  Nothing straight from England to Spain...It's kind of a curvy route, you see.  And you have to get across the English Channel, and the train through the Chunnel is REALLY expensive (London to Paris, over 100€, I think).

Here's a link that says almost $200!!!  and that's if you can GET that economy class ticket...up to $445 for First Class!  (and that's only to Paris!)  And you'll have to change trains in Paris...you should be able to get a direct train from Paris to Madrid, but if you're going anyplace else, you'll have to change trains there.

You could fly: check Ryanair and Easyjet.  They generally fly for about 100€, probably less than an hour in the air.

  3. via the chunnel to Paris, changing stations there and on with the Trenhotel (night train) either to Madrid or to Barcelona.

    www.sncf.com

    www.renfe.es

If you want a daylight trip, you have to change trains for example in Montepellier (south of France) to the Talgo going to Cartagena along the mediterranean coast, or to change in the border stations Irun (on the Biscaya) or in Port Bou (on the Mediterraean).

In the pages of SNCF (French RR) and RENFE (Spanish RR) you will find the prices as well.

  4. The complete answer/options are too many to list but here is a link to the BEST website for train travel anywhere:

    http://www.seat61.com/Spain.htm

the page starts with the comment "It's surprisingly easy to travel from the UK to Spain by train.  In fact, it's amazing that some people still think you need to fly."

Have a look. I think you'll find this answers all your questions.
