  2. At age 14 you're eligible for a Child ticket. If any of your friends are aged 16 or over they'll have to get an Adult ticket, which is double the child fare.

If you're just going to Glasgow for the day, you can buy a Day Return ticket.  In most cases you can get a Cheap Day Return which, for a child, costs £4.90 per person.

The exception to this is if you start your journey before 9.15am on a weekday (Monday to Friday). For this, you'll have to buy a Standard Day Return ticket costing £8.85 per person.

  3. Further to the answers, i am not sure if the TOC's do any special deals for kids travelling with an adult, but i know with our company here in the South East, 1 child buys an adult fare then all the others can have a 'kid for a quid' ticket, which sometimes works out cheaper when spread around a group. Enquire at the station when you purchase your tickets.

    Have fun.

  4. Remember there are numerous trains between the cities the quickest are the Edinburgh to Queen Street train, or the National Express/Virgin via Motherwell. Do not get the train via Shotts it takes ages!

Cost is low off peak but is more on peak and is busy. Buses are also frequent between the cities and take around 25mins longer but are a lot cheaper in advance- sometimes £1 each way.
