So, do you feel safe when on trains and have you ever seen vandals at work on trains or seen their aftermaths? Any input would be helpful, seeing as i need this for a project.

  1. It is depending actually on how well the government of the particular country handle public transport. Do they have law for vandalism? If so, do they reinforce the law?

Countries such as Singapore harshly punish culprits for breaking the laws such as heavy fine. Also installation of security cameras in train and platform and even a television to warn people and giving precaution against a bomb treat.

If i were you, I'll research on the statistic of vandalism between a develop country and a developing country (Malaysia, Indonesia, etc,,). You can also in-dept your research about education system of the country. Hope this will help.

    Good Luck.

  2. I personaly feel safe on the railway, but then I have worked for them for the last 5 years.

As for the aftermath. I have had to deal with the reporting side of vandalism, where I have had to contact the train operating comapnies, for the driver report/ driver manager report & if nessary the CCTV footage.

If a train has been damaged (fron kids dropping bricks from bridges onto the train) while running and the train has had to be taken out of service, then I have had to send the reports to the HSQE (Health & Safety Exectutive (I cannot spell!!!!).

I know that we have mobile operation managers who are out and about and their job is to check the track and the surrounding areas to make sure that the line are safe, so I do not worry to much & I also know that if I see somthing happening that I can call control and report the issue & I know that there are members of staff who travel the lines on the trains, but look like the rest of the traveling public.
