Training Suggestions?

I am currently a senior in high school, and I've been recruited to play volleyball in college. My main position is middle hitter, but I also play right side. I have the fundemental skills, but from now until next year I have time to become stronger, quicker, more explosive, ect. Any suggestions for some training programs or just individual exercises or reps to do? In case it also helps, I am 6'2", so I need some tips to increase my vertical as well. It's currently only 18 inches.

  1. for your vertical; i'd do lots of wall jumps, but your already tall, so i wouldn't worry about it too much

run a mile twice a week; it really helps.

set on a wall for 400 reps; i know it sounds like a lot, but its really not; we had to 1000 for our team.

  2. I suggest working out in the pool.  Get about chest deep in the water, crouch down and jump.  Land, jump again.  Do 10 jumps and take 1 minute off.  Do 10 more.  The water acts as resistance and also acts as a cushion for you landings.  Your ankles and knees will thank you.

You should also try running in the pool.  Same thing.  Water will act as resistance and will increase your workout.  Get about chest deep and run across the pool.

You could also combine the two.  Do your spike approach and then jump.  I realize that it will not be quick, but it will make it seem much easier and quicker when you are on dry land.
