Question:

Transatlantic on a freighter?

Looking for a sea crossing (atlantic) to South America and possibly on through Panama canal to Ecuador or Peru. Anyone done this? Where do I find a ship?

  2. There are two or three agencies in the USA that book cabins for tourists on cargo ships. You should be able to surf the web and find them. Start with Yahoo! travel.

  4. i know someone who did it to South Africa.....they had a great time and all meals were provided. you do need to be flexible in your travel times as anything can happen at sea or in port...apparently you can do light work or just travel but it was very expensive!

  5. Yes. quite possible. I have been right around the world on several vessels. There is a Travel agent in London that specialises in just this kind of trip. Enter 'sea travel' and you should find it. Several German lines still go across the \Atlantic with passengers. Out of Hamburg I think. It can be expensive but shop around and approach individual Lines and you should find a good trip. Again, German or Scandinavian Lines are better than the Brit ones.
