Question:

Transition glasses for free?

So I am getting my first pair of glasses before I go off to college, and my insurance is covering everything. I signed up to get Transition glasses but I'm wondering if that's a bad idea? I read that it takes a while for them to "transition" back to normal status, and maybe that was a bad idea to get them? I will primarily only be wearing them when I'm in class and driving, and I figured since it was a free addition, I might as well just go with it? Hopefully I didn't make the wrong decision!

  1. Well, if you are only going to wear them for driving and in class, then there is no advantage to having it really.

They won't darken behind the car windshield, so they won't help as a sunglass for driving.

Yes, if you wear them across the parking lot, they will be dark when you get inside, but that takes about 2 minutes to be fairly clear again.

It sounds like you have a fairly mild prescription, so you can always take them off when you get inside a building if they are too dark, for a few minutes.

They make a pretty good sunglass outside and give full UV protection even in their clear state.

Another problem is that often they will darken, even when you don't want them to. Sometimes the UV is high , even on dull days, so they will darken anyway.

Some people love them , some don't at all...so I guess the only way to know for sure is trying them for yourself, then you will know for the next time.
