Question:

Transition lens problem?

I've been wearing glasses for 20 years and bought Transition lenses last year. I've had to replace them twice due to "spider-webbing." The lens form tiny cracks, like veins all over the place. Has anyone else had this happen or know why it happens?

  1. oh yeah, and after a while, they dont go back to transparency, it just stays a little dull, and when u take them off ur eyes become really sensitive to light

  2. Are you sure it's the transition? Usually that's due to an anti-reflecitve coating. If cleaned improperly, it can scratch easily, looking like "spider webbing". You can tell if you have the coating by holding your lenses up to a light, if it reflects the color of the light (usually white) then you don't , if it reflects green, blue, or a pink-purply color, you do have the coating. If you have the coating, you need to ask your optician to give you a higher quality coating or have it removed all together.

Okay, no anti-reflective coating...Are they glass or plastic lenses? Is it the scratch coat? If you use harsh cleaners, it is possible to "craze" your hard coat. Other than that, I don't know, I can tell you this isn't common for transition lenses.  What does your optician say? It's really hard without being able to look the lenses..I'm sorry.
