I have a 1996 saturn sc1,(190,000 miles) that hesitates going into reverse when the motor's cold ,it also has a problem shifting thru the gears when driving normally like it cant decide on which gear to select. These problems are worse when the motor warms up after driving for a little while. I changed the fluid and filter and added an additive(slick 50 transmission additive) but no difference, please help!!!

  1. Your transmission most likely has worn clutches and a weak hydraulic pump.  A rebuild may cost more than your car is worth.

Swapping in a used unit may help but be sure to get one with lower mileage than your current car or you will be back in the same situation again soon.

  2. You could have a slight leak or kink in the tubing that connects the vacuum control valve on the gear box to the engine  this valve is important to regulating the gear box changes it is usually on the bottom of the gear box ~~

  3. Needs a rebuild.

  4. Tranny replacement, or rebuild.
