Transmission!?

Ok im going to be fixing the leaking part of a transmission with my bf but i want to know a little bit about everything connected to the transmission and what it exacatly does.... so i dont look like a total tool! Does anyone have good sites of infor for me? :)

have a 3/8 ratchet a socket extension and some sockets ready. have a small bowl or bag so you can put all the bolts that are alike together. You need to buy transmission fluid. and the part you are replacing is a gasket.
