Transporting a double matress easily?

im moving house (yay!) we have a small car (vw polo) and we have to somehow get the double matress in their and take it to our new house. any ideas how to do it easily?

we cant afford to hire a van :(

You have to run the rope length-wise, bumper to bumper as well, or soon as you get going, it will fold in half and break the rope.

You can carry it atop your vehicle.

run stretch straps through windows and around mattress.

fold mattress in half if necessary.

I've had to do it twice while moving.

If there is a danger of rain, wrap mattress in plastic.

strap it to the roof, tie it with some rope through the window over the top of the mattress to keep it secure!
