Hi,

I'm a Canadian who just wants to get up and go travel Europe, problem is I do not have much money. Any advice on what I could do or any agencies I can go to?

  1. Try looking at Wwoof. You can work on organic farms and stay free. Many times, farmers will agree to pick you up somewhere too. Check it out-  http://www.wwoof.org/

  2. I also didn't have much money when I just graduated, but I toured around Europe for a month. I backpacked. Reading Lonely Planet helps a bit. :)

  3. Not sure but I think Canadians can work in the UK because of the affiliation between the countries.  I am neither Canadian nor British so I don't really know for sure, but I think I recall some Canadians working in pubs and stuff over there.  This would be a good chance to kind of travel and work out the whole money thing at the same time.  Also, you would be earning Euros and not Dollars - sweet!

  4. Stop worrying about the preparation, Just get there and do it - pick oranges, wine grapes, whatever. Follow the work thro Europe ,but if you want us to plan it for you here you will fail when you get there. Show some initiative. I did it every summer and a couple of winters for 10 years. I met lots of people who just arrived and sorted it out when they got there. The Aussies are particularly good it this, so dont be outdone by them. They used to drop into England and say "hey Iv been somewhere obnoxious" and then they spent a week or two in the Institute of Tropical Diseases getting bed and board ! Smart guys ! Just get on with it buddy.

  5. WHY do you people NEVER SAY WHAT YOU CAN DO?  When these questions get asked, the person asking them NEVER says WHAT SKILLS THEY HAVE... and that can be CRITICAL in giving a usable answer.  If you can't  DO anything in Canada then you won't be greated by the locals in Europe and offered a job doing brain surgery.

AND... there are on 'Agencies' that will give you money to go live in Europe... in fact... quite the contrary... if you want to live in Europe, you have to PROVE that you have an INDEPENDENT INCOME before they will grant you resident alien status.

I first went to Europe when I was 17.. had a 1 month Youthrail pass and $1000 for a graduation present from High School... and.. I had my guitar and a TALENT... I could support myself by playing my guitar on the street during the day and by playing piano in bars for tips at night... and the only reason I left Europe after 3 years was the pressure I got from my parents to go to University.

Do you see the difference... I HAD A TALENT... and if there was an internet back in the 1950's and I would have asked the very same question YOU just asked... I would have said... I'm a good guitar player and I can play the keyboard... because THAT is a SKILL... THAT is a TALENT... and someone could have given me a real answer based on my skills and talents.

So... like I said... WHAT CAN YOU DO?
