I'm in London for over a week and would like to see Stonehenge as well as scotland if at all possible. How convenient is it to travel to Scotland and is it worth only a 2-3 day trip or should I just plan on going back another time?

  1. Scotland is GREAT but 2 days if fine!

While in London or when u arr at the airport get an Oyster card. They last forever and you can top them off as you ned to and they are SO much cheaper that paying with a ticket!!

Take the train to Scotland.  The bus thakes 9 hrs,. ugh!!

    have fun

  2. It's going to cost you the best part of a day each way to get to Scotland and back.

If you're not familiar with the UK, I'd be very tempted to say keep London as your base, and work on London and easy-trip distance from there, and leave Northern England and Scotland for another time.

Stonehenge is do-able as a day trip, or can be combined with visiting other towns in the area.  Lots of choices, if you don't want to drive yourself, URL below.

Apart from all there is to see in London (URL2 for suggestions, but don't miss out on a river trip from Embankment pier.. no need to book)

Cambridge, Oxford, Dover, Canterbury...  are all easy day-trips from London.

It depends entirely what fascinates you...

  3. Where do you want to go in Scotland? All of the major Scottish cities, some towns, and even some fairly remote places such as Dalwhinnie, are directly accessible from London by train. Journey times vary from 4.5 hours (London to Edinburgh) to over 10 hours (London to Inverness).

National Express runs trains from King's Cross station to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Inverness, whereas Virgin Trains goes from Euston station to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Train tickets are expensive if you buy them on the day, but they can be a lot cheaper if booked well in advance at the ticket office or via the train companies' websites.

It might be feasible to have, say, a 2-3 day trip to Edinburgh, but if you want to see more of Scotland you should maybe make a longer trip some other time.

  4. to see stonehenge you really need to be planning a scotland trip. London is pretty much of the other side of great britain to Stonehenge. And theres so much in London to see  dont think the time and effort would be good value. Look at this lost of attractions in london:
