  1. do a google or yahoo search! lots of hotels - mumbai is expensive - the guy who said 2$ rooms must be living in his own coockoo land ! get real !

even a meal in mumbai - in a decent place can cost 10 times that amount! i stayed in a cheap hotel - costed me 60$ - i think it was hotel accord - dont know the site - google or yahoo it & see !

travel between cities should be by air  only if money is not an object - go by kingfisher airlines around 100$  - better service than a international flight. cheaper alternatives are indigo & deccan approx. 30 - 50 $ - no frills airlines !

    mumbai - b'lore - air

    b'lore - mangalore - air

    mangalore - manipal - taxi

    been there  as above!

  2. Assuming you're a woman .. please keep safety in mind. I'm clueless about Bombay but in Bangalore you should be able to get fairly decent hotels (i.e. bed and breakfast or 3 star hotels I wouldn't recommend less than that). There are also serviced apartments, try going to a website called justbookit.com they list hotels by location and have prices too if I remember correctly. Nice areas would be MG Road, Langford Town, Koramangala, all pretty central and busy with stuff to do within walking distance or at least not horridly long journeys. I think the serviced apartments are sometimes studio apts and prices go from Rs. 3000 down .. if you are an NRI or foreigner you may have to pay in dollars. Also there's a 12% service tax.

Mumbai to Bangalore - flight is the best option.

Bangalore to Manipal - there's now an overnight train to Mangalore that is supposed to be good clean and comfortable. You could also take an overnight bus but the roads are really awful so don't sit at the back! Hotel Ballall near Garuda Mall or the Ajanta Hotel off MG Rd both provide the bus service. People I know take a bus called Durgamba I think .. or Volvo buses. These are supposed to be more comfortable and ac. Don't recommend you get your bus from the City are (Majestic) it will be very crowded and you could get harassed. Ballall or Ajanta are better bets. (Also you get really nice south Indian veg food at Ballal and not likely to give you food poisoning so check out their dosas and chaat

    :o)

I just noticed the date of your arrival so maybe you're already here. Well hope this information is useful all the same.

  8. You have a Hotel reservation counter at the Airport where you can ask fro Hotel Bhawa International they offer Bed and Breakfast, they are reasonable and with in your budget.

Alternate Sun & Sand again you can book from teh Hotel reservation centre. Do not get attracted from teh Hotel guys standing out side as they will call for one price and when you reach the hotel their tariff will be different.

Regarding Travel from Mumbai to Bangalore: there are so many flights, i am sure Flight will be economical and if your are a India origin you can buy the last minute fares fares, normally the fare will be about $160 -200 approximately, you can try in website www.yatra.com and buy the tickets on the web or at the Airport counters, you have almost all airlines flying to Bangalore, From Bangalore to Manipal should be Road only.*
