Travelling worries!?

Ok, so here’s my problem, I have asked this question to lots of people but keep getting different answers all the time, now I don’t know what to think.

I am planning to go travelling for 6 months from Jan 09 to June 09. I will be going by myself and obviously want to meet lots of people on my trip, I am rubbish by myself and will get lonely and homesick very quickly. Some people say “yeah just hang out in the communal lounge where others will be, once you start talking to people you can quite easily hang out with them for a day or maybe even a week” others say, “it depends on what hostel you stay at, people may want to keep themselves to themselves!” or “if you stay in the dorms in the hostels with say 7/8 or 9 beds in each dorm then you will meet loads of people that way, as you will be sharing a room with them and you will get to know them very quickly”

Does anyone know if this is true?

I’m planning in going to Thailand – Vietnam – Singapore- Cairns – Byrom bay, - Gold Coast – Melbourne – Sydney – Fiji – Then USA not sure where though yet.

Has anyone done this route & have any experiences of meeting people and if its easy to do so etc etc.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks very much

  1. ummm... No I haven't, but in Aus. try to stay at YHA(Youth Hostel Australia), evan if you're not youth, my family does, plus we have church camps, ranging from 1 year olds to 60 year olds.

I just researched on the web and they have them all around the world, i would stay at them as they are usally cheap and meet other traverllers like yourself.

    I hope this helps.
