When treating vitiligo, the goal is create re-pigmentation of the affected skin only. If you can't afford care at your dermatologists office, you could wear sunscreen on your unaffected skin and expose only the vitiligo areas to natural sunlight for about 30 min. a day, 3-4 days a week.

Vitiligo is a loss of skin melanocytes that causes areas of skin depigmentation of varying sizes. Cause is unknown, but the condition may be autoimmune, as up to 1⁄3 of patients have evidence of other autoimmune disease. Diagnosis is often obvious on examination. Treatment often involves topical corticosteroids, psoralens plus ultraviolet A, or for severe widespread pigment loss, depigmentation (“bleaching”) of residual patches of normal skin with hydroquinone.
