  1. It depends how high you want the border.

A boxwood hedge is evergreen but to keep it neat it has to be trimmed maybe twice a year. Cedar hedging grows quite tall. Russian Laurel makes a good hedge, is evergreen.

My own experience with Bamboo is that it becomes very invasive. The roots travel underground and pop up where you never expected it.

Blue Spruce grows to about 25 ft.

  2. not sure where you live but we have a row of arborvitea for privacy.  they come in different heights, you pick.  they are reasonably priced in the mid-west all year, they grow fast and can be purchased quite tall also.  they love plenty of water the first year and miracid every week for the first and second summer.  the neighborhood birds will love you and you'll be happy you asked the question.

  3. Bamboo is pretty fancy! But a hedge works too!

  4. Leylandii is good for privacy but grows very fast and needs cutting a couple of times a year once it gets to the height you want, laurel also is fast growing, but again will do the job, these are also evergreen so that's a bonus, otherwise something like a beech hedgerow could work.

  5. leyland cypress...http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geu68A5KhI5x...
