Trent Edwards released by Buffalo Bills
Quarterback Trent Edwards has officially been released by the struggling Buffalo Bills and reports indicate that he will likely be claimed off waivers sometime soon. Trent Edwards had won his job as the
Bills starting quarterback coming out of training camp, but was benched over the weekend in the Bills 38-30 loss to the New England Patriots.
The Bills are currently at the bottom of the AFC East and have struggled in recent seasons, and haven't clinched a playoff birth since 1999.

"He gave us everything he had," said the Bills first-year coach, Chan Bailey. "I felt like that as we looked at and evaluated everything that we had seen up to this point, that that was the direction for
the future for our football team,"

Edwards became the starter four seasons ago taking over for J.P Losman. Edwards put up good numbers but the Bills continued to struggle on offense in other categories meaning a lot of pressure to get immediate
results was placed on Edwards very early on. Edwards was unable to take the Bills to the next level.
The move makes way for Ryan Fitzpatrick who came over to the Bills last season after spending two seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. Last season Fitzpatrick started eight games for the Bills, initially
coming in after Edwards received a concussion on 18 October in a game against the Jets. After returning for one start against the Tennessee Titans, Edwards was eventually benched for the remainder of the season in favor of Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick put up good numbers against the New England Patriots despite the loss. Edwards had completed just over 55 per cent of his passes for 241 yards and one touchdown and two interceptions in his
two starts this season.  Edwards could benefit from a fresh start with a winning club where the responsibility to win doesn't rest squarely on his shoulders. Edwards will only be turning 27 at the end of next month, so there is still time for him to make a
definite impact in the NFL.
