I really wanna go to santorini Greece for a vacation. I would love to hear personal experience from people who have been to this island. Also, could someone tell me what are major differences from this island and the US? For example; hostpitals, grocery stores, prices, outlets, anything you could think of. Everything you tell me will definitly help?

  1. Do not pay attention to people that know nothing about Greece .

The drachma is long gone even before the Olympics and bad thinks happen everywhere, even Canada had a horrific beheading before Greece actually a few days before.

Santorini is an amazing destination, the formation of the island and the architecture makes it unique, millions of tourists visit every year and they love the experience. The weather and the black sandy beaches the white houses built in rock and the blue sky and sea is majestic.

This a small island but very sufficient, but don't expect the American outlets and Grocery stores.

You will find every thing you need in a smaller scale.

You will find thinks that are very fashionable because this islands cater to the rich and famous.

You will love the food, the people and the most amazing view from the Caldera and the sunsets unparalleled.

I have gone and i can go again no hesitation, none.

If you can afford the trip don't hesitate.

You will remember it for ever.

  2. Check out if they use Euros or Drachmas, still.Determine exchange rate. Pensione or back-packer room is the way to go. When are you going? Bit cold in winter but far cheaper. Avoid the main drag full of jewellery shops etc.The north is far more populated by tourists and the south is pretty cool and quiet...bring flip-flops if you're going to the beach...black sand from the earthquake gets very, very hot. Being Greece, you will arrive by ferry/boat and set upon by people offering places to stay..that's fair enough..prices are fixed by the Government..see the place first though..Santorini or Thira is just like any other place..people got to survive..Nightclubs usually open bout II P.M. and rip into the A.M. A good trip from the bottom port is to an old volcano..still spewing yellow sulphur clouds..after all these years..part of this trip is to swim to an underground volcanic spring..nice and warm after a FREEZING 150+ swim..and you have to swim back! Sheet! You can also fang off to Naxos,Rhodes or Crete if you have the time..Santorini  is cool, but I wouldn't spend all my time there. After you land in Athens, catch a bus..not a cab..catch the train to Pireas Harbour Port and get on board..after a coupla days in Athens, though. Pretty nice place..laid back..just be prepared for..'maybe,maybe not' about times of travel...most islands shut down for 2+ hours in the arvo for a little sleep. Don't ever rush..You don't need to. Bon Voyaggee!
