Trouble installing FEAR extraction point?

I own the original FEAR game and recently purchased the first expansion pak: extraction point

this might sound silly, but FEAR (original) had a glitch where auto-patching the game wouldn't work because it kept saying that the update only works for the english version of the game....which is absurd because I purchased the game off direct2drive in America

therefore I never updated the game and ended up playing multiplayer on FEAR combat, which was free and patched with no problem

however, extraction point requires the game to be up to at least 1.07 and the same stupid message keeps popping up whenever I attempt to apply the patch

help anyone?
