Troubleshooting Sylvania smps1018 mp3 player

Question

I just purchased this player and can't get it to accept mp3 files off my computer. I followed the directions to use the player as a USB disk, but if I try to transfer anything over I get the message: Please insert a disk into drive G. My computer recognizes that something is there because I get the remove hardware safely icon, but it seems very confused.
