Trying to date boat.?

Question

Bryant 18 ft., cuddy cabin.forward berth with porcelin toilet. Two windshields,115 hp Evinrude motor. Sits on a 1953 Caulkins tandem axle trailer. All is in excellant shape.

Hi ... do you know if the motor is origional...  if it is you can  date the boat to withing a  year  by researching the age of the engine or calling your evinrude dealer with the engine serial number and they will tell you the age of the motor.

Also look at the hull id number and  type that in google along with the  model and make of the boat...

If it's built prior to 1968 it will not have a HIN and if the motor is as old, it will likely not have a serial number either.  What your boat might have somewhere is a different kind of hull number, a 3 or 4 digit number.  If you can find either, you'll be in good shape, off to a good start.  The shorter hull number is an early for of a serial number of HIN (like a VIN for a car).  If you can find another boat with a close number you should be able to get within a year or two of the date of your boat.  I have a Stewart Craft (hull # 802).  I can't find the number on her (she's  33' steel crew boat) but she's registered as a 1956.  Chanes are that if the trailer matches the boat, it will be the same age.

Contact the manufacturer, with the H.I.N.

(Hull Identification Number) usually located on the upper corner of the transom on the starboard ORon the freeboard near the stern , starboard

Bryant still produces a few boats every year.  i can't remember for sure, but they are located either in Tennessee or Kentucky.  look them up, i'm sure you will be able contact them.  very high quality, and hand laid.
