okay i will be in 8th grade this year at my school and cheerleading tryouts are next year for 9th grade. i dance, but i feel i need to take tumbling in order to get a few tricks and increase my chance of making cheer tryouts. a few questions

1. what should i learn as far as jumps?

2. how long will it take to learn an aerial and backhandspring in a year if i plan on taking a few tumbling classes? lets say about 2 every week for 6 months?

3. is it super expensive for tumbling classess?

4. will taking these classes help with cheer?

5. will they help with dance?

6. i am 14 and 5'8 am i too tall? and too old to start basic tumbling? i can do a cartwheel and roundoff. but will they have groups age appropriate for me and what about arizona gyms?

  1. 4 jumps u should learn like toetouches and herkeys and stuff like that. and it just depends on if u r a fast learner or not. just pay attention in class dont cheat on something because its hard because u r just hurting your chances of making it practice what u learned and try your best and youll be fine!:)

  2. 1. Toe Touch, Pike, Hurkey, possibly a C Jump

    2. U shud be able to learn in about 6 months, just make sure that u can possibly try to do it on the floor by the time of try outs, have a coach spot u while u r practicing at tumbling to help u learn.

    3. depends where u go, some places are expensive, but that just means that there are better and more experienced coaches.

    4. these classes will TOTALLY help with cheer! U can learn alot, and things learned in a tumbling class becum very useful at tryouts!

    5. yes they will help with dance becuz it will make u stronger, and have more power.

    6. Height doesnt matter, every gym is different, according to what they usually do.

Its good that u dance, that will help with tryouts, and u will pick up on things easier in the dance routines, and it will rele help!

good luck, i hope i helped!!!

  3. You dance? Try out for kickline then. =)

  4. I'm not a cheerleader, so I'm just winging this.

    1. Toe-touches, herky's, I don't know...my friends had to do pike jumps (where you have both your legs up parallell to the ground) so if you could do those you'd have an advantage because not many people can.

    2. Good luck with that. I was in gymnastics for 6 years and never learned aerials and it took me maybe 4 years to get down back handsprings.

    3. Depends where you go.

    4. I'd assume so, since you tumble in cheerleading, but you might not have to tumble in tryouts.

    5. I was in gymnastics, and it helped me with dance, so I'd say so, yeah.

    6. You might have to be with a bunch of younger kids, but you could probably find one.
