In a kiddie pool filled halfway with water...There will be no chance of escape, and I'm going to keep her in a fenced in place in order to avoid predation, but I was wondering if I have to worry about her freezing to death or anything? She will get sun during the day, but what about at night? I really need help...Thank you!

  1. depends where you live.  i live in FL and even during the summer it is like 65-70 degrees, and the summers are about 90-95. so if you live in FL then it is fine, but i guess you live up north and it may get colder.  just buy a 10-20 gallon tank depending on how big the turtle is and bring her inside on days that are too hot or too cold.

  2. Depends on where you live and your winters, I would bring mine in the garage and put it on some carpet. I kept plenty of feeders in the pool cause during winter their eating slows down some. They don't necessarily hibernate in captivity.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they p**p allot.

You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium daily just drop 25 or so in the pool and toss in a bird cuttle bone in the water for calcium. it will dissolve real slow and if they eat it that’s fine!!

They need leafy greens for vitamins at least 3 to 4 times a week.

Sliders,  I have two that are 36 yrs old!! Plus an 8 and 5 yr old.

Sliders, Cooters , painted ,map and yellow bellied are require the same care and feeding. I have two that are 36 yrs old!! Plus an 8 and 5 yr old.

I have had them in a pond for about 6 yrs now..

  3. You have two problems. Heat can be fatal faster than cold can be. Can the turtle find a cool spot in the shade? You might need supplemental heating during the winter.

  4. the water needs to be heated if it is cold outside so you DO need to worry about water temperature. And there has to be some type of filtration. It is best if there are 10gal of water per inch of turtle.

  5. TURTLE MAN!!!!

uhm idk weere do u live?

but i highly doubt it will freeze.

  6. what kind of turtle? where do you live?

Let's say it's a Red Eared Slider (just because those are very common aquatic turtles) the temperature of the water needs to be between 75 and 85 degree F

If you live somewhere where it is a lot colder than that, you need to get a water heater. Also, they need to be able to get out on the water and sit on a floating dock of some kind and bask. If you want to e-mail me what kind of turtle you have, I will be better able to tell you how to care for it.

(you can e-mail me through my profile page.)

  7. My cousins have a turtle, im pretty sure it will be fine with the cold but they do need to be able to go all the way in the water and climb out ALL the way
