Tutoring and LD?

Question

I have a few different specific LD's and ADHD and I just graduated high school. I am looking to improve my spelling before university. When I was in school, I didn't get much remediation for it, just a computer and extra time for tests. It seems like the school had decided it couldn't be helped, so they just offered ways to accommodate it. I don't want to be completely dependant on spell checkers and slow writing my whole life. Can tutoring help, or am I doomed to never be able to spell on my own?

Here is a program that works for my child with LD's  and it is priced reasonable. You can get it cheaper on ebay though

I would recommend that you get tutoring in a systematic, multisensory phonics based program.  There are a number of good programs.  Many of them are "Orton-Gillingham" based.  I personally really like the Wilson Language System.  Contact the Orton Gillingham Society to get information on how to find a tutor with this training, or contact your school system, or even put a want ad in the newspaper to find other tutors who have this training.

These programs teach you the actual rules that govern the written system in English, including the exceptions.  Although it won't help you spell every word, it will help you figure out how to spell the majority of the words in the English language.  

It's never too late to learn.
