Question:

Two Quick Golf Questions?

1.) Anyone use the 12 inch rule? I read about it in Golf Magazine and it said that the ideal distance between elbows should be 12 inches, when you line up to hit the ball.

2.) I also read in golf magazine that people who can't bend there arms at least 6 inches behind there head when standing upright shouldn't be making a complete golf swing, as it is incorrect. How do you increase the flexibility of the shoulders and arms? Any good drills?

  2. Nope, I have never used that rule.  That distance will vary with physique.   Its kinda like the 'rule' that says the distance between your belt buckle and the butt of the club at address should be about the distance of a fist...its just a general rule.

Never heard of the second one, either.    One good shoulder turn flex drill is to sit on a bench or chair with a bar or broom across your shoulders.  Your hands are on the bar outside of shoulder width.  Turn your torso 90 degrees and hold for 20 seconds.  Do in both directions.  By sitting, you are holding your lower body fixed and working on your shoulder rotation.
