Why do you have to put two cents in,...but it's only a penny for your thoughts.

Putting in your two cents worth, no one want to hear them, so you have to pay extra for the privilege

in the current exchange rate you get about 2 dollars to one pound sterling, so a penny and two cents are of about equal value.
