is there a difference between tyranny and oligarchy? or are they related? or what?

  1. Briefly, a tyranny is rule by one person and oligarchy is rule by a few.  They're related because they're both seen as unfavorable forms of government.  


  2. Oligarchy is defined as the rule by a few.The rule could be benign if the rulers are good people.

    Tyranny on the other hand is defined clearly as the rule by a tyrant or an oppressor.It is the despotic abuse of authority.

    The difference is therefore clear in that while the former could be either benign or otherwise,the latter is clearly one where there is despotic abuse of authority without any option.

    If one were to go by language and proper definitions,

    then there is a difference.However,in general,oligarchy too is associated with misuse of power,in which case

    both forms of government are same and anti-people.
