UFC Heavyweight title?

Does anyone know what is going to happen with the UFC heavyweight title? Since couture is retired how will they decide who gets the belt, will they do a tourney? or what?

If Couture doesn't come back to the UFC then he will be stripped of the Heavyweight Title and because Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira won his Interim Title Match against Sylvia is the Interim Champion will automatically me the recognized Heavyweight Champion.  Its happen before with BJ Penn leaving for K-1, Pulver and his contract dispute, Sherk steroids case, Mir and his motorcycle accident, etc...

The next season of TUF will have Big Nog (who has the interim belt) and Mir. At the end of the show, as always, the two will fight and the title will be on the line.

Couture retired, but he still was under contract.

While the legal issues are sorted out, an interim title was created with the Nogueira vs Tim Sylvia match.

Nogueira won, making him the heavyweight interim champion, while Couture is the official champion, odds are Couture won't be coming back.

The Couture thing is still in court and God knows it could be that way for a while yet. So, they had the match between Tim (yawn) Sylvia and Nogueira. Nogueora won that fight and got the interim title. Now they have the 8th season of TUF coming up with Nogueira and Mir coaching and they will fight for the title at the end of the show.

I don't know what happened with Couture and the UFC, but I'd say it's pretty self evident that he's not going to go back to the UFC at this point. It's a real shame to, i would have loved to see couture and Nogueira go at it.

Couture is the champion. Big Nog is the paper champion.

The UFC® will not allow Couture to relinquish the title because they do not want him leaving to the MUCH SUPERIOR Affliction® company to fight Fedor. Miss Dana and the gumbas are petty like that. They think they own the sport and this town. Cowards, the lot of them.

E
