UNC’s Johnny White out for season
The University of North Carolina Tar Heels football team took another hit after it was revealed that running back Johnny White will be out for the remainder of the season.
White broke his clavicle in his team’s win over the Florida State Seminoles on 6 November. The youngster leaves as the club’s number one rusher and their fourth best receiver. The loss of White is another setback in a season that has tested the Tar Heels
program.
White was an integral part of the Tar Heels offence, ranking fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference in all-purpose yards. White’s role grew after it was revealed that the team would have to go without star tight end Zack Pianalto for the remainder of the
season after he fractured his fibula in week seven.
The Tar Heels football program has been under investigation by the NCAA since August, after it became clear that several of their players had received improper benefits from player agents. As a result the team has had 14 scholarship players miss at least
one game this season.
In addition, the team has been riddled with injuries and 17 players have missed at least one game this season. This means the squad has had 31 players miss at least one game in the 2010 campaign.
Nevertheless, head coach Butch Davis has done a tremendous job of patching the line-up and putting together a respectable season. The Tar Heels now sit at 6-3 with a conference record of 3-2. The team has qualified for a bowl game and is within striking
distance of the Virginia Tech Hokies for first place in the ACC Costal division.
The Tar Heels' next game will be against the Hokies on Saturday 13 November.
This season with North Carolina, White managed 720 yards rushing and seven touchdowns.
