I live in Australia, NSW and I just bought a UV Led light torch from ebay with a built in laser pointer, and I only just found out that laser pointers are now banned and illegal in NSW (I am only a 15 year old kid, so I don't keep up with the news) anyway I didn't buy it for the laser pointer, just need the UV Led lights, I have been trying to contact the ebay seller techtoys888, but still no response, as I think his ebay is automated. The item is being shipped from Hong Kong as soon as Monday starts and I don't know what to do, I don't want to get into any legal trouble. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Don't worry, they are probably not illegal to own just to use. When its delivered just put it under your bed for while.

  2. Don't panic.  How is anyone going to find out?  Tell your parents.  When you get it, find a way to disable the laser.  If the laser doesn't work, what can anybody say?

  3. Relax, you are fine as long as you don't take it to a public place.

A new section just introduced into the Summary Offences Act 1988 (http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/c... states:

11FA Custody or use of laser pointer in public place

        (1) A person must not, without reasonable excuse (proof of which lies on the person):

            (a) have in his or her custody a laser pointer in a public place, or

            (b) use a laser pointer in a public place.

Your Premier was also making noise about banning more powerful lasers without a weapons licence but I can't find anything that's been passed yet - see, for example "Last month, New South Wales in Australia moved to make class three and four laser pointers illegal without a prohibited weapons permits and to ban pointers of all strengths from public places." at http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/4615514a600...

Either way, as long as you only have a small laser pointer and you are either just using it at home, or have some other legitimate reason for using it elsewhere, you will be fine.

  4. Looks like you have been scammed sorry to say as its been common knowledge for some time.

Just don't go pointing the laser at aircraft of any sort and all will be OK.

After all I'm sure you wouldn't want to be responsible for a plane crash.

Also I am having a spot of bother from a seller on eBay but nothing dangerous am reluctant to use them again

Best of luck and keep trying even if you put In a dispute notice to eBay.

Just dont panic and try for a refund
