USAF Aerial Gunner?

What would be better, being an aerial gunner on an AC-130(plane) or on an HH-60 Pave Hawk( helicopter)?

C-130.  Very safe.

On Gunships, you basically service, and load the weapons.  The actual firing is handled by the Fire Control Officer (FOCO).  On the MH53 and HH60, yes you actually aim and fire the weapons.  Both are great jobs-depends on what you wish to do.

On the C130, you don't actually shoot the gun form behind it. The gunners sit in an isolated booth using TV screens and the targeting RADAR and TV. The guns are locked on and then fired. More of a video game scenario.

The load crew are out by the guns.

The gunners in the Helo have the weapons in hand and fire away, thru the open doors.

ONLY two thumbs down, and I did work on C130 gunships and am very familiar with the "box in the back", and we have Pave Lows here at Moody, and I have a friend that is a gunner on Pave Hawks. You folks aren't trying hard enough.

BTW, there was a plan to replace the 25mm gun on the C130 and replace it with the same 30mm on the A10, but that fell thru. On the early model gunships I worked on in Thailand, the 20mm was not trainable, the pilot pointed the guns (aircraft) with an iron site and pulled the trigger. Don't know about the 25mm on the newer models. Either way, the airplane played h**l on the Ho Chi Minh trail or the mountains of Afghanistan. Spectre motto: You can run, but you'll only die tired.

Still, for shooting excitement, the Pave Hawk is total hands on.
