Question:

USMLE test takers?

Is it okay if the name on your registration has no hyphen in your middle name, but your ID has a hyphen? I think I remember putting in a hyphen when I was filling out the form, and it might have been taken out by the form? Will they still let you take the test?

  1. It might be all right, but you should try and correct it if at all possible.  Call them and check--it may be that the software removed the hyphen, but this is not something you want to argue about on the day of your test.  They are very serious about ID checks; not only must your photo ID match your registration, but it must also exactly match your name as listed on your school records.

You can access the form to do a name change online, which you then submit to the NBME.  You have to get this done 7 days before your test date.  Information here:  http://www.usmle.org/General_Information...
