My husband and i have a couch and love seat set...we just bought a new house, so can afford to get new furnature.

The stuff that was given to us is blue with huge pink and purple flowers...Think early 1980's

And i need to cover them up - soon!!!

Our problem is, since they are an odd shape, is there a way to cover them??? what would you suggest?

Oh and we live in a small town where resources are very limited!

  1. go to wal-mart & get plan fabric all that I have been to sell fabric, the "$1 a yard"  table has good stuff most of the time @ mine so check it out. I suggest covering the cushions then back then the arms then tucking it all in around it king size flat sheets work well too. good luck

  2. Here's a trick I've used with a lot of success:

Buy a couple of giant painter's canvas drop cloths. These are attractive--they're  a neutral canvas color-- and they are big enough to cover a sofa and loveseat. Just drape them over, tuck in the loose parts and voila---new sofa!

I actually used mine for reupholstering the sofa. It's really easy to do--you just place the new fabric on top of the old fabric, cut it so that it fits (plus a seam allowance,) then using upholstery tacks, or sewing, folded under the raw edges and fastened them right to the old sofa.

These are really cheap!! you can get a 12 foot by 10 foot one for under $20!! Any Home Depot or Lowe's or other hardware store carries them.

  3. A big sheet/blanket

  4. you can buy slip covers for them. Try any large department store in your city or near by, such as Sears, Wal-Mart, Target etc.

Or you can get them custom made. Any fabric store will probably help you out with that. OR you can look around online for someone that will make you slip covers and you can give them the dimensions.

If none of those options are working for you, you can just throw a blanket over the top part to hide the pattern.

    hope I helped! Good luck.

  5. I don't suggest an actual slip cover because the good ones are pretty expensive and might fit funny. Use a neutral colored blanket and tuck it in really well over the arms, under the cushions etc, then lay anouther blanket over that one, but just over the back and the seat, then throw on a couple of pillows an/or a throw, if you do it well, you couches will look really really good.
