Ive ordered an item from a gamesite worth £34.00 GBP ($68.00) and they shipped it from hong kong to Uk

I was too late to ask them to mark the value down and now i know im gonna get stung by customs, By the way I didnt choose fedex UPS or any of those fancy couriers but the cheapest called economy air bubble.

does anyone know how much im gonna get charged?

  1. in theory the above answer is correct. duty alone has to be worth at least £7 before its charged to importer. i doubt the duty on your item will be high enough. that being said, duty is applied to the cost of goods inc shipping, so if your shipping charges are high, you might incur a little duty.

vat is another matter, whether duty is charged or not, vat at 17.5% will apply to the value of everything related to this import. thats cost of item, shipping, AND duty.

p.s, the postal services such as royal mail, parcelforce etc etc, have started charging admin fees for clearing the goods, so you might want to check with the relevant postal service as to what their charges are

  2. Probably nothing.  The duty on £34 is too small for Customs to want to collect it.
