umm can i breed my cockatiels on the cage floor?

because i put pine shavings on there cage floor just to see what they do and they go there but they don't stay there for long. u think they will breed?

  1. Cockatiels normally need a nesting box for there young, but I have had a couple of the birds breed and raise there babies on the bottom of the cage. But its better if they are in a box then the babies dont get pooped on!


  2. There are alot more things to consider when you are breeding your birds than if they will nest on the floor of the cage.

    Many birds will lay eggs on the floor if there isnt an adequate nesting box.

    It is better if you have a large cage or an aviary, with suitable nesting boxes and nesting materials when you are trying to breed. Are you certain that you have a male-female pair?

    and has the female started to lay eggs yet? if the pair is young they may not be able to reproduce for a year or two. This may be the only reason they are not breeding now.
