Unfair School?

At my high school we have 3 v-ball teams, Freshman, JV, and Varsity. I'm on the Freshmen team and some of the Freshmen players are on the JV team. Well the JV/Varsity coach has asked six new players to start playing for the freshmen and we have already practiced for about 3-4 weeks and they just started on Monday. Now they are already on the JV team. I dont see this as being fair. Also the JV have uniforms that are just a few years old. ours (Freshmen) are 7 years old (my sis wore the same uniform i have 7 years ago) the varsity just got new uniforms this week and their old ones were just as old as the JV tams. also the freshmen games arent anounced so no one except the parents and a few close freinds show up. in my opinion something needs to be said to the coach about this treatment of the freshmen team. What do you think?

  1. Now I am just being honest here.

Our school also has a Freshman team, a JV and a Varsity. Everyone treats the freshies like dirt. We make them sweep the floors and blow up balls. They pretty much have to do what ever we ask them. Freshman being over looked is not unfair, its just what happens.

As for the moving up of the players, its techniqually fine. You have to be on the team by the 6th week of the season, or fourth game in most highschool league. They probably got moved up because thats where the coaches thought they would get the most playing time and would work best the team. She didn't do it to be unfair, she was thinking about what would be best for the team.

As for the Jerseys and unannounced games. Ask your coach if there is a scheduale. If there is, ask her coach or principal to put them in the school bulletin or something like it. Also, talk to your coach about funraising ideas to raise money for new Jerseys. Keep in mind that they can cost hundreds of dollars and most of the money that your Volleyball program makes goes to the Varsity and JV.

Just wait till next year, things will seam more fair.

  2. to tell you the truth I REALLY DONT CARE

  3. This is very normal. You're paying your dues. It will motivate you to work hard, so that you can be on the JV team as soon as possible.

  4. No, they are fair

  5. your just a freshman get over it and the reason the other players are on higher teams is because their better, so they get better equipment, i made varsity swimming my freshman year and got a completely diffrent treatment then the other freshman did sometimes it was better because they were nicer and sometimes it was worste because they accepted more out of me and if you don't when the games are get a schedule from your coach

  6. Well of course you should say something to the people responsible.  But recognise that these individuals may not see the world like you do and may have other priorities.  It is good to explain rationally and carefully what your concerns are to the coach (other school officials).  Tell the person most capable of helping you.  Also, be sure to make concrete suggestions to how this situation can be changed.  And finally be sure to try to come across in a confident, polite, mature, friendly but firm manner.   Remember it isn't the situation's injustice that will get it solved but the way the people effected approach the situation.

  7. if u were better then u wouldn't being playing for the freshman team...i think it's fair because the freshman isn't as good

  8. I coached a freshman team for 4 years.  That's the way it goes.  Last year, I lost 4 freshmen... 3 to JV & 1 to Varsity.  I had 8 girls, with only 3 who had played the year before.  We struggled, but everyone learned & improved.  Yes, I still think about how good a team I couls have had with those 4 girls.  We probably could have competed with the powerhouse school in our league that steamrolls through the league.  But the other teams were hurting for players & they get 1st pick.

On the subject of jerseys & equipment... The freshman team almost always gets the really old hand-me-downs.  When the varsity gets new stuff, their old stuff goes to the jv & the jv's old stuff goes to the freshmen.  In my experience, the varsity was supposed to get new jerseys every 2 years.  Some schools might go every 3 or 4 years, or even more.  That's how you have ended up wearing the same jersey as your sister did years ago.  When I was in elementary school, I wore the same basketball jersey that my sister did 10 years before!!!

Try not to worry about all this stuff.  It's part of being in a high school volleyball program.  Just try to enjoy playing volleyball and have fun.  : )

  9. I know i hate it when they dont get serious about the younger kids playing sports but wait your turn and you will get your games announced soon enough. till them play hard and have fun
