Unitarian?

Question

I am trying to explain Unitarian (non religious) to a 9th grade student. I do have the basic definition, but would appreicate better explanation or example.

Unitarian Universalists are a HUMANIST organization. Any person of any faith can belong. Christians or Jews or Muslim or

Taoist, or whatever. We are concerned that people of ALL races and colors and beliefs treat each other and are treated with respect and decency. PEACE. GOODNESS.

That's a little like trying to explain "Quaker" or "Roman Catholic" to someone and tacking "(Non religious)" into the question.

Several of the founding fathers were Unitarian; John Adams, notably, but others. They believed in reason more than they did in faith, and the inherent goodness of man. They were not much on original sin. So, Government should trust to the will of the majority to govern themselves, and give everyone basic freedoms. Monarchists thought people would go wild without a strong ruler, anointed by God.

Look in the phone book under Churches. (If you are in Massachusetts it will be a local call; in Utah, long-distance.) Ask the minister. He/She will have a much better answer than I did.
