Question:

United Health Care and Pregnancy?

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

I just filled out the paperwork for United Health Care (which is what my work offers). They gave me a rate and haven't actually started the insurance yet. Since filling out the paper work I found out I was pregnant, do I have to tell the insurance company now or do I wait until they get the Doctor bill? [I know to go within the network]

Will my rates go up? My rate is already 150 more than a male my age because woman can get pregnant and such so does that mean I am already covered in that aspect?

I know nothing about insurance so please someone, enlighten me.

  1. Pregnancy is, by law, not considered pre-existing with any group policy. Here is the government website: http://www.dol.gov/ebsa/faqs/faq_consume... see under "what is a preexisting condition?"

Group policies have the same rate no matter your health, so it doesn't matter whether or not you tell the insurance company. Your rate will be the same and you will be covered.

  2. It all depends on your insurance plan really. Some insurances will not pay for pre-existing conditions, which is something you had before you got the insurance. But I'm not sure if pregnancy is the same thing. Try asking your Human Resources person, or whoever signs you up for insrance

  3. Maternity is an optional coverage.  Does that plan have maternity coverage?   No one here knows if you have that coverage on your plan - you'll have to ask them.

The insurance company is going to find out that you're pregnant, when the bills start rolling in.
