Unsuccessful Job Application.......?

Hey

Well, I applied for a job with the police on the 23rd of June this year. I sent my application via email that night so I take it they wouldnt have received it in the office till the 24th, right?

The closing date on the application was the 25th June.

I then received a letter the week later saying they couldnt consider my application because I applied too late!

What can I do about it?

I've still got the sent email and I also saved the guidance notes whcih have the closing date on it.

The reason why I'm asking this 2months later is I've just realised I have proof of the closing date when I came across the guidance notes on my computer.

Thanks

  1. Whilst you probably can't take any legal action, I would definitely write to them and outline the situation.  It might not get you anywhere, but that is really slack on their part.  At least you might make them feel guilty.  :-)

To be honest I'm surprised about this because most employers just fire off standard rejection letters if you don't even make it to interview, so I find it odd that they even gave you a reason.

The reason why it's worth following up is because most employers keep old applications on file for a certain period of time afterwards.  If they have a similar position come up in the future, they might feel that they have to go back to you so you'll almost certainly be guaranteed an interview.

  2. well you could try to appeal it but i guess they've filled the position now.

  3. If you don't have proof they received it before the deadline you might have a problem. They could just claim they didn't receive it in time, regardless of when you sent it.

It's probably a bit late by now, but you could always write to them with the appropriate evidence and see what they say.

  4. You can try and appeal, but I don't think it would do you any good now, if it was two months ago, I am sure they would have filled the position by now. Try not to get too het up about it, life is too short, I know it's frustrating and annoying, but just keep a look out for any other positions.  Unfortunately its just one of those things.

  5. Maybe cut and copy the email to them highlighting the time and date you sent the email.

Thats really annoying that you missed your chance, is there another chance to send it again anytime soon?
