what is the difference in an upscaling dvd player and an upconverting dvd player?

  1. Yeah ....basically the same but technically "upscaling" is a term used for CRT based displays Upconverting is used with fixed pixel displays such as LCD,Plasma and DLP. But for all intensive purposes they mean the same thing.


  2. Nothing ... two terms for the same thing.

  3. You can get a video scaler that will take (for example) a 480 signal from a standard dvd and digitally enhance the image quality to sort of "manufacture" additional lines of resolution, improving the picture quality.

    A video upconverter just takes the same signal from the 480 player and breakes that same information down into 720 or 1080 lines, not really doing anything of note to the picture quality.
