Question:

Urgent Booster Seat Question?

My daughter's Mother has a car that only has lap belts in the back seat. My daughter is 5 years old and weighs 50lbs. The booster seat we have only works effectively with a shoulder strap.

Is there a booster seat or some kind of way to secure a child in the back seat when there is only a lap belt back there? Is it safe to transport her in the front seat? There are no airbags but there is a shoulder strap.

  1. All kids 5 yrs old & above should ride in the trunk.

  2. Try this site, it is very helpful................

  3. There are actually harnesses you can buy that connect onto the lapbelt. You can purchase them from most toy stores. This should ease your mind when your daughter is travelling in the car. It's worth it if it saves her life.

  4. No, it is NOT safe for a child to ride with only a lap belt.  The front seat is not safe either.

You might want to look into a seat like the Safety 1st Apex which has the harness that goes up to 65 pounds for her to use in that car.  My almost 6 year old daughter still rides in an Apex seat with a harness every day, it's a lot safer and I feel like she's so much more secure than in just a belt positioning booster.
