Uruguay-Venomous animals?

Thinking of immigrating, BUT phobic of venomous animals. Are you in Uruguay? Are there a whole lot of poisonous snakes, spiders, scorpions, centipedes, etc. that live in and around civilization? Would someone in a city have to worry about them really? Are people very often bitten/stung by seriously venomous animals in Uruguay? Thanks.

  1. Hi Lisa..

i'm uruguayan, living in Uruguay, and want to get you calm obout our animals.

Uruguay is a very safe country about that.

I have raised my sons going to countryside since they were babies and never nothing happened to them

We have not so much venomous animals here.

May be some spider, as everywhere, but I dont know if I have  heard about some person with problems for that in my life.

Snakes.......well, there are 1 or 2 poisonous snakes, but mainly in the north of the country.

I havent seen any in all my life.

Come calm, this is a nice country, with very friendly people.

By the way.........where are you from??? and.are you coming to live in Montevideo?

I'm sure that you'll enjoy living here if you like calm places.

Good luck..... and welcome to my country !!!!

  2. Where the h**l you heard that!!!

That´s not true. I am uruguayan.

We are not in the middle of the jungle, we have not indians at all or even african american people.

Our ancestors came from Europe, we have a high university level education.

We live in cities from 100000 people. We speak more than 1 language.

pls!!! search the web to see Montevideo, Punta del Este, Piriapolis, Colonia, Salto, etc,etc and u will see the way we are and how we live.

  3. Alot of Uruguay is rural so yes there are the chances of some critters live around civilazation.  In the city I would not think you would have to worry about things such as snakes and stuff but im sure there are small insects.  I used to live there many years ago and still visit often as I have family there.  I dont ever remember seeing more than a simple small garden snake, never a scorpion although I do no know if they are in Uruguay.  As far as spiders, yes there are spiders.  I dont think there are more than its fair share as you would find in other places.  I have been bit by what I am assuming was a spider because my hand got really swollen when I was sleeping.  It lasted a few days and went away but then again I was out in the country side where its easier for them to live.  Also, I would think my reaction was partly due to the fact that the species there are diff from where I normally live and therefore my immune system had not previously handled a similar bite.  It is not something I worry about though when I visit.  I am going again in April.  Good Luck!
