What does it mean to be "nominally religious"???

  1. Religion in Uruguay is transcended from the Roman Catholic Church.  Being that the majority of the first Uruguayan descendants emigrated from Italy, Spain and other parts of Europe, they carried the values of the Roman Catholic Church in their 16th century emigration since it's influence was at its highest as ever.  Generations and generations later we have stuck with it, but we ONLY practice it.  We're not bigoted such as other nations about it.


  2. Nominal means what appears on a list, I guess that nominally religious menas that Uruguay has always appreared in every book/enciclopedia as a religious country. Having lived in Montevideo for two years, I can assure you that the majority of people in Uruguay are Catholic as any major country in south America.
