Using fragments in professional writing?

Question

Is it improper for a professional author (of books, like fiction) to use fragments in their writing, if it's to emphasize the way they want the reader to read that particular section of text?

ex. When the boy stepped on my foot, it hurt. A lot.

Is this wrong in the professional world?

That's perfectly acceptable for creative fiction writing.

There are areas where that would be unacceptable, but for what you're asking it's fine, even good. ^_^

I had the same question, and it's fine. This isnt writing class, "real" writing has much more room for creativity, passion.

It's not wrong, as long as its fiction. Heck, even if it's nonfiction, you are fine.

No, authors have the right to do that I think..

No it's not wrong. It makes the writing seem more realistic. Like when someone says "how are you doing?" to you respond by saying "I am doing good." or just "good." idk but most people just say good. I hope that helped!   = )
