I am an orange mobile phone user and have my phone set up to use abroad. I am going on acruise in 2 days and in the ticket information it says that mobile phones can be used on the ship. Although I can't find this anywhere on the internet and I would like to know the tarriffs for using my phone on the ship. I am on pay monthly and I am going on a cruise on the Thomson Destiny in the med. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

  1. Most of the more modern cruise ships now have "dstirbuted" cell sites on their ships support the major cellular systems including GSM (AT&T/T-Mobile) and CDMA (Verizon/Sprint).  They then use Satellite communications to link their onboard cell sites to the rest of the world.

You be charged higher while using your cell phone on the open ocean.  While in port, you should be able to lock into your own carrier's roaming partner except for CDMA carriers who require you to use a special Worldphone that uses CDMA technology in North America and GSM in Europe.

  2. Part of the point of going on a cruise is to get away from it all.  Leave your phone at home and just enjoy your time away.  There is nothing that can be that dire.

  3. most cruises charge $2.49 per min...be carful
